Andy Heafield Captain 2006/07

For many people the highlight of my Captaincy year was the marvellously, smooth and languid Captain’s drive which, after a few, pre – shot, low alcohol Beverages (ahem) to soothe the nerves, flew a splendid 2 feet 6 inches.

Other high points included an enjoyable Captain’s Day that raised almost £800 for the Guide Dogs for the Blind, there were new Saturday competitions – the Saint George Bowl, the Autumn Pair’s, we had Bromley golfers participating in County trial matches and Championships and we went on a club trip to Ireland from which many people are still recovering.

One of the best things I did was persuade that Minder look-a-like Terry Lord to become Vice Captain and my eventual successor. I like to think that between the two of us we took the club to a new level, one that we hope will continue to develop after we both leave for pastures new in the summer of 2008.

Friendships were fostered, partnerships forged and, in some cases, playing standards were raised!!

Above all, I hope that we had fun and enjoyment, after all, isn’t that what it is all about?

And if occasionally it isn’t, particularly after a bad round or a sound beating in match – play, go to the bar, order a large one and put things into perspective. Next time out, take your time, look around, breathe the air and think how lucky we are to be enjoying this fine game and the company we keep.
