First a big well done to Barry for being the overall winner in this monthís medal. After playing 36 holes yesterday in the Jack Hicks and suffering from a touch of sunstroke the Captain managed to drag himself out of bed to turn up today to take on Mikki and Dan Parfrey in the Captain/Vice Captain challenge to earn little Freddy an extra £5 towards his charity.( or should I say Dan Pinkfrey as he also got a little cooked in the sun yesterday to a medium rare colour ). Front 9 Face glowing red and not his normal self not having fined anyone before tee off this morning the Captain took aim down the middle of the 1st and drove it along the trees finally being spat out by the last tee finishing before the fairway bunkers but redeemed himself with a great second onto the green and finishing with a par and with Dan and myself getting pars the hole was halved and it was game on. The match went back and forth through the first nine with the skipper and myself going 1 up after the 2nd only for Mikki to peg us back to levels after a chip in birdie on the 3rd from 40 yards out. A birdie by myself on the 4th in retaliation saw our lead restored but another win for them on the 5th followed by the 6th & 7th saw us go 2 down. But with a win on the 8th by the skipper followed by a half on the 9th we walked off at the turn 1 down. Back 9 After Dan scuffed one down the middle off the 10th just making it over the fairway bunkers and Mikki going bush bound the skipper looked at me and gave me the nod to pull the big guns out and we gave them both barrels straight down the middle with the Captain finishing on the green 8ft to the left of the pin and myself 14ft left of the pin on the fringe. A gentle chip from myself saw the ball heading for the hole for eagle before deciding to leak of left 3 inches before the hole running over the lip leaving me a tap in birdie and a birdie for Steve after reading a break which never came. A par on the 11th by myself saw us go 1up again followed by two halves on the 12th & 13th with pars from myself and the skipper. A lapse of concentration by the Captain and myself saw us lose two holes on the trot on 14 & 15 putting us 1 down again. But with a half on the 16th by the skipper it gave us a chance with two holes to play to try and turn things round. The 17yh and Dan to tee off first, hit a good ball but straight right finishing in the first cut right of the trees in the middle of the fairway, Mikki tees off hits a low draw resulting in him hitting the tree just over the bridge on the right and ending up somehow in the first cut over on the left hand side of the fairway by the 150 marker, Steve pulled his drive sending it towards the big oak tree on the left just managing to miss it finishing over the ditch in the first cut, myself drilled one straight down the middle splitting the fairway ending up on the left hand side past the trees leaving 110 to the pin. Steve's, Mikki & Danís second shots saw them miss their target and come up short of the green. Pitching wedge for me good strike straight at it pitching before the green, bouncing on and finishing pin high just over 2ft from the hole leaving me to roll it in for birdie and to square the match. On to the last and four good tee shots down the fairway with Dan and myself on the left the bushman on the right and the skipper in the bunker. After all three of us missed the target Steve hit a great shot out of the bunker landing on the green and just rolling off onto the fringe on the left followed by a good chip finishing 6ft behind the hole. With myself and Mikki taking two fives and Dan finishing with a six the match was halved and was left down to the skipper to putt for the win and with a good roll his ball found the bottom of the cup giving us the win. Great putt skipper. Great match guys get your names down for the return match. Look forward to it. If anybody fancies taking the Captain and myself on please put you name down on the sheet on the notice board in the club room. Brooksey and Pagey take the challenge on next week. No swindle this week due to medal. Next week round two of the Championship best 3 out of 4 rounds so if you missed the first your still in with a chance of winning it. Sorry the report was a little short this week.....

The winners with John & Lisa.
A few words from John and Lisa Hawkins: Lisa and I would like to thank you all for a beautiful tribute to our son. It is a real honour to have a Trophy day in his name and thank you for such a great turn out. Hope you all had a great time. Well done to the winners Thomas, Andy M and Mick P. Thank you all It was a great day enjoyed by all. As soon as I have all the score cards I will put up full results. Would like to thank my wife and Nicky for the sandwiches and cakes they went down a treat, Really great turn out, couldn`t believe how many turned up and to have the sun shining made it all the better. Some really good golf was played and I hope you all enjoyed the game I chose, Texas Scramble. Once again thank you all from my wife and myself. Vice-Capt Log Congratulations to Andy. M, Mick and Thomas for winning the inaugural Reece Cup today. With a great turn out and the sun shining it was the perfect day to hold this new competition for the remembrance of John and Lisa's son Reece. With all Johns and Steve's family there for the presenting of a fantastic glass trophy with winning medals for the lucky three it has been a great addition to the clubs fixtures list and a honour for the club to take part in the remembrance of Reece Hawkins. All John. W and myself needed was for Mr. Kelly to turn up and our team would have been complete and a shot at the cup may have been in our grasp, we would have settled for Deano Snell but he decided to have a lay in and was a no show to, so we set of down the first whistling "just the two of us we can make it if we try, just the two of us, you and I" But unfortunately it was more like one and a half of us, but be assured Mr. Kelly's ears must have been burning. Cheers Bill.....
